About Jaipur Centre for Art

Founded in 1727 under royal patronage, Jaipur was envisioned as a centre of artistic excellence. Its rich heritage in crafts—from pottery to textiles, jewellery, painting, and marble — remains alive through generations of artisans.Today, Jaipur uniquely blends tradition with innovation, attracting  creative talent from around the world while preserving its artisanal roots.

Building on Jaipur’s rich artistic legacy, HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur is launching the Jaipur Centre for Art (JCA) in collaboration with contemporary art specialist Noelle Kadar. JCA serves as an art institute featuring an exhibition space for contemporary art and design, alongside artist residencies and public art programs.

The inaugural exhibition to launch the Jaipur Centre for Art at the City Palace, Jaipur is a group show of established artists - half from India and half from other parts of the world.

Paintings, sculptures and photography in a variety of styles are brought together to create an exhibition which acts as a dialogue between how art is made and how we perceive it. What all the artists have in common as their subject matter is an interest in perception itself. They think about how their works will be viewed by an audience, how they can manipulate or subvert what the viewer will encounter. This is done through a variety of approaches, both materially and conceptually, such as abstraction, multiplication, reflection, and deception.

How do we recognise what we are looking at and how do artists manipulate images and materials to cajole, confound, and delight those who experience their artworks?
